Color Me Red - Recession

Color Me Red 2k9I know exactly who I am going to the next time I decide to have a fete of any kind.....REdio Caribbean International and Red Unlimited. I have missed only one Color Me Red... and that was because I had been out of island. I considered sitting out the one last night but something compelled me to up. And I am glad I did. Otherwise I would have missed out on one of the biggest and best Color Me Red fetes I have attended. People came out in droves...decked out in all shades of red.

For the weeks leading up the party, DJ Iwa had been warning people that Color Me Red - Recession was going to be 'badd'. He described it as the get it good fete. Get it good we did. I came in early so I did not have to take the long time that stretched the length the of the parking lot to get in. I laughed at some of the folks who had decided to hang out in the parking lot before going in and found themselves trapped on a line waiting to get in. Lesson learnt i am sure.

DYP - the Derek Yard Project - started off the entertainer's part of the show. They chose to go the old skool route which proved to be a hit. I could have done without the monologues that Derek went into but I guess you have to take the good with the bad sometimes. I thought he stayed on a little too long but he obviously did not think so since he had to be pulled off the stage ...not literally mine you.

I was pleasently surprised at how quickly T.E.M. took the stage to continue the show. Our Saint Lucian artistes truly made themselves proud and they all put on fantastic performances in my opinion. Everyone was short and sweet. Finally the message seemed to have gotten to them that the audience is never interested in a long conversation...just sing your song and go. Skinny Fabulous fit right in without missing a beat. I must also mention Sir Lance-a-lot. I think he was brilliant. He kept the show moving at a brisk pace and managed to have it end on time by 2:45. He was also very innovative in the way he introduced the various artistes.

The recession was great...thank you Red for giving me a chance to say that. And by the way Recession fete does not have to mean a recession bar......sorry Team I had to get that one in.
